Lake Kivu
Kivu is one of the great lakes in Africa and the largest of numerous fresh water lakes that gleam in the valleys of Rwanda, lying in the Albertine (Western) rift of the Great Rift Valley. Lake Kivu Stands 1461m (4.790 ft) above see level and is the Africa’s highest lake, the northern shore of which is subject to eruptions of nearby Mt. Nyiragongo. The lake bed sits upon a rift valley that is slowly being pulled apart, causing volcanic eruptions in the area- evidenced by current volcanic eruptions of Mt. Nyiragongo and ashore water springs.
